Square Exits Mobile Ordering Apps Market: Firms like Appetize Innovate
The first to lead the Conga Line of Mobile Ordering Apps, leaves the dance early.
Square leaves the market it pioneered to chase dollars in tools for small businesses. Despite this exit, the Mobile Ordering market is not down, but on the verge of another expansion. CARDFREE and Bluedot Innovation are betting on their newly launched mobile ordering app that lets you order ahead for both drive-thru or carryout, currently ringing up sales at Taco Bell since winter of 2014. As other solutions target large QSRs, some late entries to the already segmented market delve into even more new territory. Check out Appetize’s mobile payments and ordering platform for live events and sports venues. Imagine ordering your snacks from your seat and having them brought to you. Don’t miss a pass, a set, or any of the fun. Load up on snacks, get some merchandise, even design your own drink. Pretty cool. Their mobile payments platform can process payments without an internet connection.
As EMV approaches, more research into how customers order and pay for food and beverages will continue to bring new innovations for convenience.
